Breathe with me

That day, fortunately we were one border apart,
A wrong number, memories made colors like an artist’s art,
Hopes to meet one day, the war between did thwart,
Voice of yours I heard amidst the explosion by accident,
Enough of imagining, should meet, a decision so ardent,
Rode to the border inept to the fate that was impendent.

That day, woefully we were one border apart,
A bomb, a bullet, took our dream to our story’s finality,
War for selfish reasons, freedom to love, it couldn’t impart,
Lying on the ground with eyes set on you amidst the melee,
Hiding from the gust of pain in the lee of a sweet memory,
I know you can hear me, “please breathe with me”
