One Thing I’d Like To Change About The World

My friend and I, were recently talking and she asked me, “What is the one thing you’d like to change about the world?” (you know, just casual Sunday conversation between two teens). And that got me thinking.
The one thing I’d like to change about the world is people. People and the way they think. I’d like for people to not look for things to change in the world but instead to change in their own mind. Not question others’ personal choices and opinions but question why it bothers them in the first place.
I’d like people to not look at someone and pass a comment about how thin or fat they’ve grown over the summer. I would like people to not whisper in hushed tones about how the neighbour’s son likes boys and not girls. I would like people to not talk about how that girl’s skirt is too short. I would like people to not say that, that skirt is basically ‘asking for it’. I’d like people to not sow seeds of fear and distrust in their child’s mind against someone because they have a long beard or because they wear a turban. I’d like people to not remind someone to be a man’ or tell them to not ‘cry like a girl’.
If people start thinking that anything else going on in someone’s life is simply not their concern, it would make the world a better place to live in. If people stop dissecting other people’s happiness to feel better about themselves, it would make for a better day.
If everyone just stops trying to make people around them more like they want them to be and rather start accepting them like they are, maybe one day a question like “What is the one thing you’d like to change about the world” would never arise in the mind of two teenagers on a Sunday afternoon
