A simpler place

By Mehmooda Khan

Do you ever feel like to escape the real world and imagine yourself somewhere simpler? With tall trees and soft breeze, or glittery rivers and shiny snowflakes, or maple leaves and soft sun, wearing plain laced gowns and hair braided, red cheeks and soft smiles, where you feel alive and at peace, playing hide and seek and giggling while running, sitting around the bonfires and telling stories of things that don't exist, or playing a normal game and singing songs. A place where love is not complicated with trivials of time and attention and materials and expectations, just stolen eye contacts and hand written genuine letters scrambled and thrown. Where people live for the love of life and happiness.

A place having flower gardens that smell heavenly and beautiful colourful birds just chirping and adoring the flowers like their first lover. A place where your heart feels warm and eyes shine like stars, where the breeze smells of romance and rains pour down love songs, where each meal tastes better than the previous one and each day feels satisfying than the last, where books are written by hand and memoirs are a common thing. A place where you are never tired of living and life is never tired of you…

People will kill you over time, and how they'll kill you is with tiny, harmless phrases, like 'be realistic', 'be practical', 'get out of your fairytale', 'get out of your imaginary bubble'. I've heard this a lot in my life! And I refuse to accept it, I refuse to be realistic. I refuse to limit my mind on the basic standards of living and loving and sacrificing and compromising, and believing that life is hard and you don't always get what you want, and that magic is only for the movies and that love stories are not as beautiful, I refuse to believe that real life can't be as magical, and that miracles don't happen, and that it takes years to reach a certain pedestal, or that in order to gain something, you need to lose something. I've had moments in my life that tasted like magic and I've seen miracles happen. Magic happens to those who believe in them. And I believe that the one above who has control on everything has absolute power of making anything possible, you just got to have belief!

I pity the people who don't understand this, who think that it's their destiny to live like this, who're satisfied in the little world they're living, when they could be living so much better, more beautifully and more magically, believing in something bigger than what exists, believing in people loving them insanely and unapologetically, believing in stories, fantasies, prophecies, changing destinies...
