Allies to Strangers

Updated: 5 days ago

By Dhritika Deka

We met in a new place called the beginning,

Not knowing how it turned to a friendship.

We laughed, we shared, we played,

We sat together, giggling in class,

Scolded and punished, yet together.

As year passed, we grew driven,

Leaving behind the old bond.

Envy, hate, stress grew deeper,

Things we shared became weapons to hurt.

Only goal was to reach the height faster,

As understanding, care, and faith slowly faded,

A smiling face is no more a warm one.

All we wanted was to outshine the rest,

Wrapped in a facade of fake bonds.

We fought, separated and went in different ways,

Never bothering to change or embrace a final goodbye.

If we ever meet, we could have a talk,

But we aren't matured enough for that yet.

Blaming others has become an easy game.

All we want is to live a flawless life,

Unbothered by the pain we've caused-

A true reflection of the selfish world we live in.
