Dawn In The Field

Updated: Dec 3, 2022

By Sudhanshu D'Souza

The Sun rose in the sky,

As I stood in a field of wheat,

Thinking what to do

Under the basking Sun’s heat.

I could hear some grasshoppers,

A few footsteps away.

But the moment I followed the sound,

I realised; I’d gone astray.

Just then something zipped past me;

I tried to escape it with speed.

When I looked back at the large insect,

I saw a playful dragonfly indeed.

Suddenly I felt something delicate,

Resting calmly on my arm.

It fluttered away the very next moment

For it was a butterfly exploring the farm.

These terrains of magic and wonder,

Mesmerise all who step into their boundaries.

And give them memories of joy and innocence,

That they reminisce in their pleasantries.

This poem reminds me of my school summer vacation days that I used to spend in our farm land. Oh, those good old days...so close to mother nature.
