India, the 3rd largest Fish producing and 2nd largest Aquaculture nation in the world. The Blue revolution has brought the many improvements in aquaculture by adopt new techniques. The Blue revolution has been particularly significant by increase the production of Fish & Shellfish cultures. This revolution was launched between the year of 1985 to 1990 at the 7th Five year plan by the funding of Fish Farmers Development Authority (FFDA), Government of India. Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri, the Father of Induced Breeding of the Carp, was the pioneer of the Blue Revolution. The Coastline of India is approximately 7516.6 KM long. This includes 5422.6 KM of mainland coastline & 20.4 KM of island territories. The Coastline borders by the Arabian sea & the Indian Ocean in the West & the Bay of Bengal in the East. The Coastline touches 9 states & 2 union territories.
Later on, during the 8th Five-year plan (1992 to 1997), the Intensive Marine Fisheries Programme was launched & eventually, the fishing harbours in Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Tuticorin, Porbandar & Port Blair were also established overtime.
The Aquaculture Industry has been growing at an average rate of 9% in a year & India is one of the fastest growing country. By the Blue revolution in India with the vision to achieve the economic prosperity of India keeping in the view of sustainability, biosecurity & environmental concerns.
