Friendship Means Little When Its Convenient.

Updated: Jan 18

By Shanmukha Vitta

Friendship is soft when the sun is high,

when laughter ripples without cost.

It’s easy to stand together

when the world doesn’t lean too hard.

But what of the moments

when the light thins,

when shadows stretch long

and the silence asks questions

no one wants to answer?

Convenience is a fair-weather thing—

a thread that fracases in the storm,

It does not know the weight of having loyalty,

the quiet strength of just staying.

True friendship is forged

not in the ease of days,

but in the ache of nights

when the ground beneath you swings.

It’s in the reaching out,

the steadying hand

when nothing feels steady.

So let the convenient ones drift,

like leaves on a fleeting breeze.

They were never roots.

Hold on to the ones

who knows your name

when it’s hard to carry,

who show up when it matters,

even when it hurts.
