I Spent My Years With You

Updated: Jul 15

By Jaskaran Singh Dhillon

We were really far,

Never too close at the start;

And even though

I don’t really remember your face,

I still remember your embrace,

Poise and grace in your gaze,

Love and wine in your sight,

You were mine by heavens design.

So what if we are far,

I still live with you in my heart;

Even if you'd ask me how to tell you the truth,

I'd say to you, I spent my years with you.

Oh my love! It was you,

When we first talked about things so due;

You were far in distance true,

But girl I spent my years with you.

We talked of your friends and

We sung to the song of the storms,

We basked in golden sunshine

Only for us to grow apart.

We never really looked around

For any of us anywhere,

Yet wherever we went,

We could only spot each other, in them.

I had my chance to tell you,

To tell you of my love,

I slipped it into a bottle

With a message for the oceans to trust.

The one who finds the message

Shall surely know,

That If there was anything of yours with me

It was love so true.

Even if you'd deny it at first I'd reveal to you,

Though we stayed far apart, I spent my years with you.
