If I Were to Write

By Veeda Kazi

If I were to write,

I would write...

The sound of the deaf,

The words of the mute,

The brightness in the eyes of the blind

And the intellect of a dyslexic mind.

I would write…

The freedom of the caged,

The emotions of the abashed aged.

The feelings of a one-sided lover,

Hoping his slit wrists recover.

I would write…

The struggles of a student,

Struggling to be responsible and prudent.

The sacrifices of a mother and

The pressure on a maiden’s father.

I would write…

The pain of a mother’s demise

and the wisdom of the wise.

The cruel acts of the rapists and

the pure hearts of the Baptists.

I would write…

About your soul for the world to read,

for you will be remembered for

All your good deeds.
