Western coast, winter equinox, I'm playing hide and seek with the waves,
Splashing it in my face hoping I'd wake up from this place,
Back in my bedroom, staring at the ceiling, wisps of a haze,
Crawling over the third quarter faze,
Of the moon screaming it's nearly complete,
Telling me this is the very day,
You finally made it.
And then on the spring equinox,
I saw something I couldn't quite believe,
Until I tested it with a punch like it were a faulty torch,
Which I needed to hit before it finally lit,
And here I was on the hunt for peace,
Ending up in, well, pieces.
The syllables I'd spoken,
Had only ever been uttered by myself,
And on your voice it sounds so broken,
Because it was never meant for anyone else.
Shh, it's a secret,
Between me and the walls of my mind,
It's for my ears only how did you hear it?
How did you steal it from inside?
Someday you'd see the good in goodbye,
When you finally look it in the eye,
You'll know that this is just meant to be mine,
Today, tomorrow and all the time.
You snatched it like a flying scarf in the air,
Beginners luck in your pocket,
But my very existence had the flair,
You hit a sixer, the audience applauded,
And I stood in a corner, as you got it,
Instead.
The first time that I heard it,
I thought I heard my own name,
And I smiled at the thought that history repeated,
That things really didn't change.
But then I realized it was your name, not mine,
It sounded so wrong, I laughed and cried at myself,
I splashed the water in my face, salt stinging my eyes,
Because probably I needed it so that no one could tell,
How my senses flashed out like a 70s TV out of signal,
Glitching like a projection, feeling unreal.
Shh, it's a secret,
Between me and the walls of my mind,
It's for my ears only how did you hear it?
How did you steal it from inside?
When you know it's mine.
