Love at First Sight: A One Sided Confession

By Soulima Biswas

The first time I saw you, I never thought it would be like this,

As time went by, you slowly brought me to my knees.

At first, it was nothing but just a little crush,

But now you make my adrenaline rush.

You are the only one who made me believe in love at first sight,

And now, you are all I think of at night.

Butterflies in stomach were never a myth,

Because I feel them whenever you are in my next seat.

Affection isn’t always about words we say,

It's in the little ways that I’ve learned to display.

From hiding to gaining courage but not expressing because of fear,

Not the fear of rejection, but of losing you, my dear.

What words could capture this feeling for you?

Adoring you has opened my eyes to something new.

In that moment, I believed our bond was meant to last forever,

Do you hear how our names blend so beautifully together?

Drawing your portrait was one of the pleasant moments for me,

It was as satisfying as making an anguished soul free.

Often I hear, “Love is in the air,” they say,

Having you by my side is the only prayer today.

I cherish the way you laugh and smile,

Making my heartbeat echo mile by mile.

You are the euphoria of my eyes,

Yet the cause of all my sleepless cries.

My love for you will endure through all,

Even if your hurtful ways never seem to fall.

One wish I have is to be loved by you-

Could this one dream ever come true?
