Marine

By V. Karthikeya

Your daughter has weak lungs to practice swimming.

2 YEARS AGO:

Dad, see what I made using sand? Do you know what it is? No idea princess, dad I am a mermaid now. Oh, you look awesome baby. Darling, I think our daughter wants to become a marine biologist. Do you think it is a bad idea? No not at all I am just saying.

After 1 year:

Movie playing- free Willy

Baby, what are you watching? Dad this movie is so awesome? It shows all marine animals’ dolphins, fishes, sharks, mermaids. Dad, how is my painting? Wow, these are so nice baby mermaids, sharks and all.

After 1.5 years:

Dad, I want to learn to swim? Why baby? Dad to become a marine biologist I have to learn swimming, followed by scuba diving, and I have to excel in biology, chemistry, etc.

Coach:

Are you the father of red hair new join girl? Yes, I am. So, sorry to say this sir. Your daughter lost control while swimming and was unconscious.

After knowing the condition: dad I want to learn swimming.

5months later:

Wow, daughter, it’s time to learn scuba diving. Yes, dad let's hit it.

SCUBA DIVING:

Remember before breaking into the water dimension breathe deeply and keep this pipe in the mouth. It is attached with two cylinders which will provide you with the necessary oxygen to breathe underwater. Now, I am setting a timer of 1hour. You have to dive deep as you can and return before the alarm. Sure, James.

Dad: Baby, tell me the things you have done for the past few weeks. Ok, let’s start with training. You know dad I was so thrilled diving 50 meters deep into the water. I was able to see some small fish swimming around me. Thereafter it has been an amazing week spending time with nature, forest, and its animals. I even filmed and took a few pictures of the animals I have encountered with.

LEARNING:

You know what dad? It’s been hard learning these subjects. But, I am going to master these with all my might.

AFTER GRADUATION:

Ok baby tell me what have you learned all these years? Ok, starting with physics theories and experiments which are bore at interesting. And going to the field with professors collecting the plants, taking the samples to the biology lab for the experiment and study was the most exciting work. Where in the process our professors also came across a new virus, but not to worry it is not as armful as we taught. And filling the records just for the grades is the boredom work I came across my learning activities. But not to blame them because it taught us a great lesson to record or keep any information you have come across in your work or research, because it will be the only proof of our work after all. Which will reach the audience in further days as reference material.

DAY 1:

So happy to be underwater, I am diving deep to explore the coral reefs and collect some samples of the plants and water in the depths of the ocean bed for study.

DAY 2:

I am back up on a boat with my team, so bad that I am not able to enter the water due to the heavy tides and waves for the past 3 hours which is also delaying our exploration/work.

DAY 3:

Today jack is with me, as I am being an instructor to him for the past week.

DAY 4:

I am so excited today being on the blue planet as I have encountered the super pod of dolphins being in the middle of their journey and also coming face to face with sharp-toothed sharks.

DAY 5:

Just being on the blue planet is enough cause you can see the beautiful creatures roaming around in the groups, finding new species that are not yet discovered.

DAY 6:

We are heading back to the city as we gathered enough samples within our travel. It’s been an exciting week spending time with the water world.

DAD: Ok baby, but tell us how you have become a marine biologist?

Oh sorry! Guys, I may have fast forward my quest to be a marine biologist.

So, dad after the graduation. I have volunteered with a charity for seven months as my passion is to learn and spend more time with whales and coral reefs. And here is the thing to say that reading about the animals underwater may be an engaging thing and it is another immersing yourself in the underwater world and seeing these animals firsthand. With this group, I have learned 300 species of tropical fish, a few hundred different species of corals, and 150 species of invertebrates. And while I was there I got a lot of dive under my belt and I have become a competent diver and it was these skills that helped me to get my first ever job as a marine biologist on the great barrier reef in Australia from here I decided to pursue a career in underwater film making.

DAD: Baby, can you tell us about your experience on the blue planet and your film?

I’m Rachel butler I’m a microbiologist and underwater filmmaker. Thinking back as a child I dreamed about walkers and whales and how life would be underwater. And from there to now I can’t believe that I have finished my film called oceans our blue planet it’s been a dream come true.

The oceans cover two-thirds of our planets and microbiologists have spent their time discovering the new species and filming the unseen moments in planet blue such as babies of fishes and snakes coming off the eggs, groups of tiny fishes making shapes. And yet there is a vast amount of space you can discover in there, where you have no idea what might you find under the deep sea. Which leaves a huge space, that new species of life can be discovered by future generation microbiologists.

MARINE- From experience of Rachel butler.
