My take on obsession might intrigue a few and sound selfish to others, but I only intend to convey my perspective on self-care.
The word obsession can be associated with a person, a hobby, or an individual which can have both negative and positive consequences.
Well, I believe the paramount obsession in your life shall be you. Fall in love with yourself. Ask yourself:
How can I improve my mental health?
What interests me?
What brings peace to me?
What can I do to improve my physical health?
Practice something just because it feels fulfilling to you. We might feel insecure because our neighbour’s son is excelling in his life. But ever thought about the fact that he’s busy improving his life. He’s not bothered by what others are doing because his goal is self-improvement. Become an individual so engrossed in your life that you don’t have time to compare your life to others.
Journal because you feel like, you wish to vent out.
Meditate for your peace of mind.
Learn something because you think it’ll add value to your life.
Try venturing into the areas you’ve never been to,
Be it a new hobby, a new course, or a new practice. Be inquisitive, be curious. You won’t get small if you ask someone a question or you feel you can learn from them. You might feel dumb for the first time, but
remember you’ll be a learner once and an expert lifelong.
Go beyond the conventional education system.
Learn from areas you never expected you would. Education may help you excel in your examinations but going beyond will help you excel in your life. Don’t let the fear in you prevent you from doing something. What if you fail? Haha, failures are an integral part of life, that’s how you get to introspect on the areas you need to work on. Create diversity in your life.
Sufficiency comes with contentment.
Be content with your growth, because once you're bothered by others’ whereabouts, you’re digging for yourself a rabbit hole of depression and anxiety, creating a void within you.
I've always emphasised the aspect of the journey. It's the striving period of your life that motivated you to do something. Once you reach your destination, life gets monotonous again. The world would only acknowledge your success and failures. They haven’t seen your thoughts, your journey, or what it took you to achieve a certain task or master a certain hobby. Only you are aware of your journey, achievements, hard work and setbacks.
Id say that try a particular course just because you want to, talk to a certain person just because you feel inspired by them, appreciate a stranger because you feel that they look stunning!!
Explore your inner world, there are a lot many things you’ll discover about yourself. And once you do, you’ll find it amusing while comparing yourself to others.
You are You, a treasure-trove:
With
An ideology
A skill set
An opinion
A perspective
A talent
An interest
It makes you whole and unique!!
