Sacrifices

By Shefali Choudhary

They sacrifice for you without a second thought,

Giving up what they held dear so you can have what they never did.

The worn-out shoes they wear so you can run in new ones,

They keep their eyes open even when tired so that you can sleep in peace.

Maybe your mom wanted to run a business of her own and your dad wanted that expensive phone too.

Maybe the elder sis wanted to not feel responsible all the time, as if she was the second mother,

Or your partner giving up on their dreams relocating with you to support your venture,

They don’t count the hours spend waiting outside your entrance examination halls,

Or in the car while you practice your cricket game,

Or while you are giving a make or break presentation for your start-up.

They give and give without expecting anything in return,

Their sacrifices never demand a thank you.

And you know what the best part is; they smile when they see you succeed,

As if all the hardships they had ever faced are gone because you are successful.
