Did you hear it?
That cursed night
I did.
Did you see it?
So subtle on our walls
I did.
Did you feel it?
That sudden quake
I did.
Soon our screams
Watered the weeds,
Sucking at the teat
Of the very existence of us
It twirled around
Our warped souls.
Dancing tendrils
Poisoning us whole
But we were strong
Begging to hold on
To the light and like
Of us, you and me.
Its roots grew resilient,
Its branches threatening to throttle
Draining away the very life
That had revived us.
It was loud, so deafening
The ripples shattered our hearts
The wind knocked right out of us
Souls embedded with shards
Just like that
There we lay
Fallen to dust
Ashes, oh! Ashes of such a beautiful love
Just like that
There we lay
Poisoned to death
In tatters, such tatters
Forgetting what we had been
