Ever since time immemorial poetry has been used as a beautiful way of expression whether that be of love, anger, sorrow, passion, fear. A poem transmits knowledge and human values. It connects with the soul and also shape the human mind.

The beauty of poetry is that it seamlessly convey emotions and ideas through the use of language in evocative way. “I wandered lonely as a cloud ‘’one of the  most famous Wordsworth poem, which celebrates nature in all it’s glory, depicting the poet was wandering  lonely over the valleys  and he suddenly came across the awe -inspiring Daffodils beside a lake. The poem beautifully captures the beauty of nature and implies an inherent unity between man and nature.

With two simple lines from T.S Eliot poem the Hollow Men, readers are transported to a future where things aren’t as astounding as it should be: “This is the way the world ends, Not with a bang but a whimper.”

The powerful line by William Wordsworth ‘The Child is father of the Man’, stresses the  fact that how important childhood experiences in helping to shape the human beings they become in adult life.

The famous lines from Robert Frost poem from ‘Stopping By  Woods on a  Snowy Evening ‘: “But I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.”

This reminds us the value of time and our responsibilities .The poet was mesmerized by the beauty of nature and  paused to admire it, but simultaneously he must continue his journey to fulfil his commitments and duties and reach the destination in time.

Thus poetry which has the power to encapsulate profound emotions also sometimes speak about social issues, oppressive nature of our society. Adrienne Rich, one of the most celebrated poets of the 20 century daintily captures the essence of female empowerment and resilience in her poem “Aunt Jenifer’s Tigers”.  The poem talks about the oppressive patriarchal nature of our society where women are forbidden from pursuing their dreams and aspirations. Here lies the power of poetry as Aunt Jennifer finds solace in her embroidery which depicts the magnificent tiger’s in their vibrant form during a chase through a lush green forests. It is through Aunt Jennifer ‘s needlework the poem celebrates the power of art as a means of self -expression and women empowerment. Aunt Jennifer finds solace in creating something that represents her inner strength as compared to her real condition where she is abused by her husband.By unravelling the depths of “Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers “we get a insight of the challenges faced by women and the power of art in their journey towards liberation.

Poetry has always healed us,inspired us ,it is an important literary genre since we express ourselves our deepest feelings but sadly technology has replaced it.Do we not anymore need the consoling arm’s of Poetry?
