The Inanity of the Russian Crusade

By Raghav Anthwal

Some people suggest that war is worse than hell, for it does not differentiate between the Innocent from the perpetrators, rather only innocent civilians are the ones to get scraped, looted, hurt, burnt, in short…broken

War is never fought for merely a single reason, and I believe this conflict too is subject to this observation, Russian federation stated that they are “liberating” and “de-Nazifying’ the Donets basin in Eastern Ukraine and “protecting their sovereignty” (jewishunpacked.com). In my opinion this is a faux Casus Belli and their interests lie in the Azov ports of Mariupol and Skadovsk, Black Sea port of Kherson and Sevastopol in Crimea (www.reuters.com). Russia lacks the warm-water ports which are integral for trade and navy standpoint. Russian Federation also believes that the expansion of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has been responsible for westernizing the countries borne of the fall the Soviet Union.

The skirmishes between Russian Federation and Ukraine have been going on since the fall of the USSR but have only recently turned into large scale invasions, from my standpoint, The Russian federation did not prepare for the conflict and seriously underestimated the resistance they may have had to face. Russian reports suggested that the administration believed the “strategic Military operation” would only last a few weeks, but had now lasted for more than 5 months. Being the only nuclear power in Eastern European region, Kremlin made rash decisions based upon their former glory and ignored the needs of their decaying and undertrained forces, with some of the soldiers being as young as 18 years old (www.bbc.com) along with increasing technical knowledge and experience required to operate some weapons systems, it is facing a major obstacle in their path of amalgamation of the eastern bloc.
