The Purest Human

By Niranjan J

Once a wandering soul reached the gates of heaven, requesting to be let in. “State your living name” said the door keeper to which the soul replied. The door keeper consulted his archive and declined the soul entrance.

Dejected, the soul went to the gate of hell, requesting to be let in. “State you living name” said the door keeper to which the soul replied. The door keeper consulted his archive and declined the soul entrance.

Frustrated, the soul decided to complain to god. “I am denied entry in heaven and hell” it complained. “How much more should I wander for a home?”

“I see” the god said. “You have not done enough good deeds in your life, nor have to done grave sins. You must wander”

“But I am fed of wandering like this for a home, dear god there must be a solution for this, please help” the soul pleaded.

“I may grant you, your wish. On one condition” said god. “You must fulfill a task for me”. “Oh god, please give me a closure, tell me the task” the soul pleaded.

“You must wander around on earth for the next one month and bring me back a report” the god said. “A report where you must with reasons, find me the purest human on earth”. The soul agreed.

A month later, the soul laid down the report in front of god.

“I roamed so many parts of the world for a pure human being, I met with so many people of different characters, some vile, some generous. Some self-absorbed, some caring. Humans are a volatile species, so I have characterized them according to their age:

At the age of 80, a man is the wisest, having learned the lessons of life, but what is the common theme at this age. It is the worry about closure, worry about their children and grandkids. Need for a patient ear to share daily and life experience. Guilt about depending too much on their children. Ego is at their lowest.

At the age of 50 - 60, human accept that they are getting old, the body challenges their everyday activity that they could do easily before. Human goes after medicines and cure to get back to “normal” but eventually succumb to life’s turn of events. Their vigor for power and money diminishes. Ego falling.

At the age of 30 – 50, a human is at the peak of his health, but is absorbed in making money and satisfying society and family. He is least worried on what’s coming and take things for granted until they are not available. Ego at peak.

At the age of 15 – 30, a human is exposed to the sweetness and cruelty of life, once coming out of the shield called parents. He assumes himself that he knows it all and starts disregarding advice, thus learning critical lessons of life at this age. Growing ego.

At the age of 5 -15, the human is dependent on their parents to survive, looking up to them as a model. The human starts to mirror their parent’s character. Budding ego.

At the age of 0 – 5, the human as an infant and child, is like an empty vessel, that can be filled with love or hatred. Or like a wet clay, can be shaped as a god or demon. For at this age, the mother’s warmth and love shape the future of human. Nil ego.

According to me, the purest human on earth is the human baby. A pure human soul devoid of greed, ego or attitude. Its skin smooth as feather, a gleaming eye and toothless smile. A mother’s touch and food is all what it craves, to get reinsured that it is in safe hands” the soul ended the report.

The god smiled at the soul and nodded happily. “Oh! wandering soul, choose your destination” said god.

Finally, at the feet of god. The soul decided heaven. “Granted” said god.

The soul found itself in the arm of a beaming mother looking upon him happily with a sweet smile. The touch of her, the smell of her and her embrace was divine. With great satisfaction and tired smile, the baby tugged at his mother’s cloth, his memories of past event fading. Heaven is here.
