It's been about 11 years of having dreamt of, 7 years of having conceived the idea of, 9 months of practically transforming in to a luxury homestay and about 3 months of experiencing what parenting tastes like.. and today I appreciate what a skillful art nappy changing is. I realise no amount of reading, hearing experiences, sharing tips and tricks actually preped me enough until the gurus themselves incarnated in form of my beautiful twin daughters. đ
I call it a skill for it takes a special knack to first detect the occurance of this holy event without peeping in to or poking on the nappy by first deploying the extraordinary sense of smell and bringing those tiny tushies up close.. it is a knack to then carefully place them on that corner of the bed which is now a dedicated open air kiddo-toilet, arrange a set tissue and wet wipes on one side along with fresh nappy.. you see, this is being proactive. You don't want to run around when the show begins. It's like a surgical act. It's a knack to then remove the soiled nappy gently such that I don't end up cleaning her legs, hands, bed cover, my hands, my dress and at times my face.. it is a knack to then find that sweet-spot-perfect-angle, where I can get a closer view without really having to stop breathing for few mins. It is a knack to then slowly take the soiled nappy to the overflowing-i-forgot-to-empty dustbin somewhere in the bathroom in a way my house help doesnt give me a disgusting look while mopping the floor the next day. It is a knack to then make these little ones wear a new nappy especially as they grow and become super active doing tap dance in air. It's a full fledged process you see ! đ
My gurus have been gracious in providing numerous opportunities for my practice, every single day. And they are mighty forgiving when I err in ways which make them laugh their tummy off.. sometimes they display their amazing sense of humor when they decide to do their business in a freshly changed aloe fragrant warm new nappy.. đ¤Śđťââď¸
As I practice this new skill I realise how these lovely daughters are also being my spiritual guru as every single time we share these bonding moments on the changing station, we say our gratitude and thank the universe for keeping their digestion system strong for we have suffered the impact of poor gut enough. đđź
So kudos to all parents, grand parents, family, friends and caretakers who relate to this and are gradually becoming an expert. To those who are planning to, I can only wish you the best đđť..
