The Unfinished Chore

By Ambika jha

Everything is now in balance

Stands steady, holds its grace

The furniture is dusted, teak wood glimmers all golden and fine

Everything is rectified, and everyone is happy then who or what has lost its

glossy shine?

From morning glories to afternoon worries she is the one found responsible for

every catastrophe made a subject of undue suspicion

She does not know nor can in her capacity understand that she stays obliged

and accountable to what undone mission?

With the dreamy dawn of a sunshine morning, the little birdie wakes her up to a

world of uncertain events, people, and experiences

On her part, she too doesn't expect any gold here

She works, she falls, she stammers in tatters but never disappoints even

amidst feelings of despair when all she is affording are quick volunteering

tears

The day has begun, and the kingdom is ready to roll

Everyone from the king and ministers to the army is waiting for the drum roll

But here lies this sad soul looking still surprisingly precious but perplexed at

her disposition

The one who has to be perfect by hook or crook and value customs and

traditions

No one thinks and is concerned about how she manages her life

How much pain and pleasure she feels perfecting the roles of a daughter,

mother, sister, and wife

No one talks about the regular wars she wages each day to keep her family,

society, and life satisfied and gay

No one feels a stir to mention her worth even at the end of the day when she is

rightfully the most important character in every chapter of life's story

And she sometimes at her fate and that of the world too feels so sorry

In the flow and fancy of this life, she is uncared for even by her loved ones, now

well-settled in her avatar, all dreary, wanting, wretched, and drained

She was never understood and credited for her contributions

And was always found guilty and surrounded by delusions

By all logical analysis, she should rule being Queen B, the prime character of

her mega film, and be appreciated for her over-the-edge calibre

The way she has served her folks each day and night and how she is worth a

mention in the book "Life's Outstanding Contributors"

She can never be found guilty or blamed

She has done everything for all extending her ability and interest never wanting

in return any accolades or global acclaim

Measuring her worthy levels of dedication and her unwavering support for

the well-being of one and many we can see that till now she was never wrong but

we always were

To understand, love, respect and value her efforts

We humans by default are a species guided by selfishness who only do what

will bring forth returns and never can have the time or feeling for the other

being to extend a gesture of love and concern

We can’t help this wretchedness out of us however strongly we try

But luckily we can still make amends and strengthen broken ties

So let us start now by finding verses in her chapter rhyming

With words, actions, expressions, and emotions of love, care, and compassion

to make her smile

Let us finish our unfinished chores, and make our roles worthwhile

The housewife is simply special, all capable and beautiful

She does more than is expected out of her concern and love for all

We must surely do the needful too to credit her efforts with rewards and get

her ready to dance being Princess Shiranda of 'The Golden Gloss Ball'

On her part of sheer simplicity, she has no fancy requirements and wants only

a single morsel with a glass of water

So let's light her world with joy, and cheer her with laughter

Let us whitewash our souls first with the distemper of human qualities then

call her names or judge her acts or anything

If we are chosen by the Almighty to spread goodness around we will see that

after all the mess and magic of this life is over, the one angel left by our side,

still standing, undaunted, even by the bullet in her chest is that woman, the

simple homemaker, ready to live and die for her loved ones which raises her

above us all as a truly incomparable and beautiful human being.
